Roleplay via OpenSim

Today I spent a little bit of time on OSGrid, looking around to see what was there. I’ve been thinking that in time I may very well set down roots in some form of player-created grid, free from the ever-increasing limits put on the Second Life grid. With a little digging I managed to run across the clear-but-perhaps-not-very-interestingly-named grid devoted to RP spaces: Role Play Worlds. I’ve yet to go visit, but it looks like there’s a good deal of work going on there and I look forward to learning more.

A Little Update

Hallo folks!

This is a quick note to let everyone know the subscribo’s been moved to http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Penzance/78/137/24.

Ambrea continues to be a fine place to find good Medieval-Fantasy roleplay, and I am there pretty much every day myself. If you’d like to do a little peek at their community without having to walk about on the sim wearing a visitor tag (I still recommend that, as it’s generally a well-crafted place) you can visit it on the Ambrean Ning. If you -do- want to visit in-world, a good place to begin is the Karamoon Sky Market & Orientation area.

In other news, it seems that roleplay is also going well in the Shipyard sim, though I have only heard this myself secondhand. If dystopic earthbound sci-fi is your thing, you can visit at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Shipyard/114/86/67 to learn more.

Happy playing!

Fine Fantasy RP in Ambrea

Greetings!

I am pleased to report that I found good SL RP the other day, in the land of Ambrea, a sixteen-sim (!) region dedicated to Middle-Ages-Europe-Fantasy roleplay.

In our first day there yesterday, we found other players without needing to look very hard, and all five that we interacted with ( a lanky fae pixy, an uncertain elf, a quirky mage, an unsociable satyr, a curious construct ) all stayed in-character and in-setting. Our characters were never addressed by name until  introduced. Imagine that! ^_^

It seems this land has existed in SL for a year or two and that means it is unlikely to vanish any time soon, making it all the more appealing for those of us hesitant to invest time in something that may be all-too ephemeral.

Ambrean Forest

These lands are using a new (to me) meter system, the BNJ RPS, that is designed to promote and enhance RP and it looks quite promising. The HUD has dozens of buttons for various things and is packed with helpful stuff. I’ve barely scratched the surface of it, as I tend to be more of a social player than a systems one, but it is good to know that there is a developing system to support things. I chatted with a Karamoon admin the other day and was told that a resources system is in the works, and an in-land monetary system is present and gaining momentum.

If you are interested in learning more about the place, they have a ning at http://karamoon.ning.com/ and you can visit the sims by heading to any of the Karamoon or Ravenscraig-area sims. Do wear a prominent visitor tag and an in-setting appearance.

To get signed up with a character, visit the Karamoon skymarket at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Karamoon%202/128/63/1001
and head through the big green archway hedge thing. The signup is a little complicated and also involves filling out a web form, so expect to put some time into the process. There’s a link for the web form portion on the ning pages.

Good stuff! Happies! See you there!

Ping!

Hello folks- I’ve gotten away from SL roleplay for a bit, with one thing and another, and I wish to once again say that this thing’s a group effort, and anyone is free to help draw us together. Post comments here, speak with those in the seeding group, whatever. It’s -your- SL roleplay, you get to have a hand in making it happen. Happy playing!

Alms for the Polls…

(Sorry, had to get that church reference out of my schema.)

Hallo, hallo! Terry T. here, charged with time keeping, so I have wound-up some polls for people to use. This will keep inventories clean and the process simple, as well as involve non-group members (and possibly convert some.) They are multiple choice, and you are encouraged to write your own thoughts, questions and concerns in the comment area of this post.

Our first point of convergence: Avaria

Greetings and good day to you all.

Tonight I drew random numbers from the hat (aka http://www.random.org/) and as fate would have it, our first gathering spot shall be the four(ish) sims of Avaria.

“Both sentient and animal species are welcome.  The Avarian setting is at the dawn of civilization, where the wilderness teems with life and the scattered settlements are home to a myriad of playable races.”

One can see more settings lore at the wiki:
http://avaria.wik.is/

For those who enjoy settings creation and writing, it  seems the settings are still a work in progress, and I suspect Miss Sanje Batra might welcome some pieces of lore for the various races, were one to consult with her on the basics first. For more information on the building of the settings, do see my blogginess on Avaria in the next post down from this one.

If you’d like to be able to work with the crafting system in Avaria, one needs the low-cost expedition kits to gather materials with. They are about thirty linden each, as I recall. You don’t need the kits if you just want to assemble/cook/smith things that are gathered by someone else. The kits are available above Avaria at the Grendel’s Children shop at the following LM. They are in the corner on the first level.

Getting to Avaria itself is pretty simple via map, or you can use this LM:

Thank you all for being a part of this, and I hope to see you there soon! I expect I shall be an undersized troll of sorts.

Friends, roamers, countryfolk, send me your sims.

Good day, and hello everyone,

Today I have sent out a request to the service group for a list of sims people would enjoy playing in. I hope to be able to announce our first convergence node here (and in the subscribe-o-matic)  in a day or two. Rah!

In other news in the SL RP world: I have been spending some time in Avaria lately  (the sims beneath Grendel’s Children) as I had become curious about the place after my home ‘land’ of Caledon began offering hints of a ‘game’ that tied into Avaria’s. So I went there with my 1,000-BCE Cymreig RP alt to explore and try these things out, so that I could learn more about what was going on.

Effectively, Flea Bussy and Sanje Batra and others of the Grendel’s Children team have been building a crafting system not unlike what one might find in a fantasy MMORPG- one can gather raw materials  from the landscape and take them back to a workshop and play with them and figure out how to build things out of them.  I ended up having a nice chat with Flea rather by accident and it seems we have a lot in common in how we want to support RP.

Flea told me that Avaria is likely to be testing out an RP-only area on a sim soon to see how it goes, so if bronze-age fantasy appeals to you, which might be something to explore when it becomes available. One may visit http://avaria.wik.is/ to learn much more about the RP side of Avaria. As I understand it, the team definitely would like to have more RP going on in Avaria as it is, and they are studying the crafting system with an eye towards developing it in such a way as to make it a nice thing to support RP without enticing people to come and play with it OOCly just to get the crafted goodies.

All this and the Caledon tie-in too. It seems there are pioneering airships travelling from one realm to the other on missions of discovery and trade, though I think this is something very new to the settings of both lands.  I am curious to see if this might in time encourage more roleplay in Caledon as well, though, lacking a history and consistent settings parameters, it is not reallllly a place meant for continuous IC play. Time will tell!

Good day to you all, and thank you for your time and your support  in making SL RP even better than it is!

Teeny update

Hello again- just so everyone knows sort of what’s going on, I (Ceidru) am rather busy with various things of late and so getting Set the Scene launched needs come at a leisurely pace. Trust me though, when I am able, I will herd the kitties together and we’ll start converging. I am thinking perhaps after March 7th, I have a concert then.

Oh, I may as well shamelessly plug it here, as we’ll be broadcasting live to SL as well. It’s a concert in celebration of International Women’s Day with lots of fun tunes and information about global women working to change the world. Visit the BroadArts Theatre site for more details, or hit me up in-world for a little invite package!

Hello world!

Hello everyone, and be welcome.

If you are new to Make the Scene, please do please read the About page to learn what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.

If you’d like to receive in-world notices about where people are playing in Second Life, you can sign on to our subscribe-o-matic at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Steelhead%20Boomtown/100/51/27 – any recent notices will be there in the history, and future ones will be delivered to you as long as you stay subscribed. It doesn’t take up a group slot!

Thank you for your interest in helping to make SL better for RP and we hope to meet you in-character before long.
